Keeping guitar strings fresh can be a chore, so I put the Guitar String Derusting and Anti-Rust Care Pen to the test on my well-played acoustic. This tool aims to tackle oxidation while coating the strings for long-term protection in one convenient package.
The pen features a compact, ergonomic design that makes reaching the underside of the strings straightforward. The brush bristles are stiff enough to scrub away surface rust without damaging the fretboard, and the oil applicator delivers just enough lubricant to prevent future buildup.
Using the pen is surprisingly intuitive; it essentially works like a felt-tip marker that you run across the length of the string. It is far less messy than using liquid cleaners and cloths, allowing for precise application that keeps the rest of the guitar clean.
This is an excellent tool for gigging musicians and home players who live in humid climates and struggle with premature string oxidation.
While it won't fix completely dead or corroded strings, it is highly effective at maintaining playability and brightness. I rate this a solid 4 out of 5 stars, especially considering the $23.90 price tag for such a handy maintenance accessory.
